Planes, trains, and automobiles (& a boat)
We know getting to Martha’s Vineyard isn’t the easiest trip—it’s a planes, trains, and automobiles kind of situation (sometimes all in one day!). But we’re so excited to share one of our favorite places with the people we love most. We appreciate your willingness to travel to celebrate our wedding with us.
From New Jersey / New York:
By Air: You can fly direct from NYC to Martha’s Vineyard (MVY) (~35 minutes), or fly to Boston (BOS) and then connect to MVY
By Car: Drive to:
Kingston, RI (~3.5 hours), then take the Martha's Vineyard Fast Ferry to Oak Bluffs (~75 mins).
Falmouth, MA (~4.5 hours), then take the Pied Piper to Edgartown (~60 mins)
Woods Hole, MA (~4.5 hours), then take the Steamship Authority to Oak Bluffs / Vineyard Haven (~45 mins)
By Ferry: There’s a direct ferry from Highlands, NJ that stops at 35th street in NYC and then goes to the Vineyard! It’s about ~6 hours. See ferry notes below for more info.
Train: Take Amtrak to Kingston, RI, then continue via ferry.
From Boston
If you’re coming from Boston, you know the drill.
By Car: Falmouth (~1.5 hours) and take the ferry over (ferry options below).
By Air: There are direct flights to MVY from Logan.
By Bus: Peter Pan Bus offers service from Boston to Woods Hole.
⛴ What’s the Ferry Like?
It’s kind of fun! Whether you’re arriving from the Cape, Rhode Island, NYC, or New Jersey, the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard is easy, scenic, and part of the adventure.
You can walk around, sit inside or out, and yes — there are snacks and alcohol for purchase. The ride typically takes 45-60 minutes from Cape Cod, 75 minutes from RI, and 6 hours from NY/NJ
If you’re coming from Highlands, NJ or Manhattan, Seastreak runs to Oak Bluffs. It’s longer (~6 hours), but comfy and no driving required. Bring a book, a buzz, or both.
When you arrive in Oak Bluffs, you’ll find taxis and Ubers available to get you wherever you need to go — hotel, Airbnb, or straight to your first mudslide (we recommend stopping at Nancy’s for one).
All ferries have long term parking where you can ditch your car for the weekend.
It’s a smooth and surprisingly charming start to the weekend — just don’t forget if you are bringing a car to book your ferry tickets early (4-5 months in advanced).
